Friday

Friday morning we finished our work projects. The youth center has a new ceiling thanks to Jim and Greg and their helpers. A family has a new home which will need some finishing work. A foundation was laid for an addition to a house at the front of the La Esperanza compound. After lunch we went to the beach for baptisms. Two of our team members and one of the La Esperanza interns were baptized in the ocean. The local church members, Buky and Theresa's family made us fish tacos for dinner. We just packed the truck and we are about to start our campfire debrief. It has been a fantastic week. Praise God!

Dancing in praise

Here's the video of dancing in praise to the Lord.

Thursday

On Thursday, we went out to Camp Vergel again as we did Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, but instead of VBS we hosted a health fair. We taught the children how to brush their teeth, about the benefits of drinking water and other healthy beverages, about healthy eating, to not use drugs, about how to wash their hands, how to make an oral rehydration solution, about the benefits of exercise, and about Jesus and his love for them. We handed out bags with toiletry items and gave each child an apple.

Wednesday

On Wednesday night we attended church again. Worship at church here involves dancing. There may be a video later if we can get it uploaded.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, chapel, testimonies, worship, work projects and VBS continued. At VBS the children learned about Noah's Ark. On Tuesday night, we went out to the park next to La Esperanza and grilled hot dogs for the community. There was a great turn out. It was and opportunity for us to serve the community. There was lots of singing to end the evening.

Monday

Before we get into Monday's activities, here is a picture of the team participating in the Sunday morning worship service as a choir.

On Monday, after breakfast and personal devotional time, we met for chapel. We worshipped the Lord in song, and Hannah H. and Konrad shared stories of God at work in their lives. Buky told us the history of La Esperanza - how his father came to Baja California and connected with Keith McBride to found the church and the clinic.

After chapel time, everyone received their assignments for the morning work projects. Some team members are working on building a small house, and they were able to raise the walls today. Other team members worked on cleaning bathrooms, pouring cement, painting, installing the ceiling in the youth center, gardening, and preparing for the afternoon vacation Bible school time at the migrant camp.

In the afternoon, we went out to Camp Vergel migrant worker housing compound and played with the children. Then we sang songs with them. Pastor Junior taught the children about the prophet Jonah while the La Esperanza interns acted it out as a skit. We did a craft with the children that related to the story of Jonah.

After dinner at the La Esperanza compound, we went back out to Camp Vergel for film ministry. We played with the children some more, giving lots of "caballitos" (piggyback rides). Then we sat down with them and watched an animated flick about Daniel in the lions den and interpreting the handwriting on the wall.

After film ministry we met in our small groups (a.k.a. Family Groups) to discuss our devotion questions and pray for one another.
