Keeping Busy

Our first three days of our trip have been packed full.
Sunday we started the day with a full breakfast followed by church. Church service here is at least twice the amount of time but because of the passion and the spirit filled sermon, the time flies by.
Our team spent their free afternoon either chasing waves & soaking up the sun at the beach or going into the town of San Quintin to shop the local market and experience the community. We finished the night by meeting the team members in our Family group.
Monday morning was the start of chapel time of worshiping together & sharing testimonies. Next we worked on various work projects. After lunch we experienced our first day of VBS at Camp Vergel. We were blessed with the presence of 150 kids. After dinner, we returned to Camp Vergel for film ministry.
Tuesday was much like Monday with the exception of the evening. We hosted a community outreach in a nearby community. We grilled hot dogs, along with offering chips, watermelon & lemonade. We played a competitive game of half-court soccer, listened to a couple of testimonies (from us American, interpreted into Spanish) and then proceeded to watching a outdoor film.
We have returned to our site and are now ready for a good night sleep, hopefully.
Please continue with the prayers. We ask for prayers for proper rest, our health, the ability to serve the community well and equally important, shine our lights in order for others to know and see God through us.

We Made It

So after a little over an hour at the border, lunch at the Ensenada Costco and a bathroom break at Rancho Santa Marta, we arrived safely at the La Esperanza Clinic. It has been a long day. With everything unpacked it is time to say goodnight. Goodnight!

Ready, Set, Go...Almost

We have packed and sent our large truck ahead of us. It has safely arrived in San Diego. The only missing is US!! We are set to depart at 7:20am this morning. Please keep our team of 44 in your thoughts and prayers throughout this week.  We will do our best to keep in touch through this blog. Time for a little cat-nap before we head to the airport. We will update once we arrive at the La Esperanza clinic.

A Couple Day's Late but...

WE HAVE ARRIVED SAFELY!!!
Thank you for your prayers.  Our team appreciates every single one.
Despite flying out at a later departure time, we made record time due largely to the breeze of the border crossing.  We arrived, unpacked, ate, received orientation and was off to our rooms before 10 pm!
The team observed the sabbath by resting our minds with a later start time, nourishing our bodies with good meals, fortifying our souls with a spirit filled sermon like no other, and experiencing the local culture & community with either a visit to 'town' or the local beach.  We topped the day the best way we could - debriefing with our family groups.
Today is off to a great start.  After a delicious breakfast, we had personal devotion time, followed by worship, chapel and now we are hard at work focusing on our work projects.  So far our projects have ranged from prepping for VBS, pouring concrete, roofing, painting, auto repair, bathroom cleaning, prepping for Thursday's health fair and a few other odd jobs.
Please continue to prayer for our team.  We would especially appreciate prayer in regards to team unity and team health.

Friday

Friday morning we finished our work projects. The youth center has a new ceiling thanks to Jim and Greg and their helpers. A family has a new home which will need some finishing work. A foundation was laid for an addition to a house at the front of the La Esperanza compound. After lunch we went to the beach for baptisms. Two of our team members and one of the La Esperanza interns were baptized in the ocean. The local church members, Buky and Theresa's family made us fish tacos for dinner. We just packed the truck and we are about to start our campfire debrief. It has been a fantastic week. Praise God!

Dancing in praise

Here's the video of dancing in praise to the Lord.

Thursday

On Thursday, we went out to Camp Vergel again as we did Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, but instead of VBS we hosted a health fair. We taught the children how to brush their teeth, about the benefits of drinking water and other healthy beverages, about healthy eating, to not use drugs, about how to wash their hands, how to make an oral rehydration solution, about the benefits of exercise, and about Jesus and his love for them. We handed out bags with toiletry items and gave each child an apple.
